Dear host family
My name is Mariane, but my friend and my family call me Mary,I am 22 years old, single, and live in São Paulo – Brazil. São Paulo is one of the largest metropolises in the world, with 11.32 million inhabitants, a chaotic traffic, and many entertainment options. It is known as the city that never sleeps. São Paulo is an incredible city! I live with my parents Margarida mom and Antonio dad and my brother Hugo but i have also one sister Beatriz my sister is married and the name he is Clayton they have two children Mirelly have 3 years old and Enzo 10 month my family is very big i love my family and my family is very important to my.
I know that you are in a very important moment right now, looking for the person that is going to take care of the most important thing in this world – your children. I imagine how hard it has been to find someone that fits well with your family; that will love and take care of them for you, and ensure that they grow safely and happily. When parents trust someone with their children they want to be sure that this person will be alert, will always have her eyes on them, and do the best for them. I am fully aware of the importance of this program, and of the immense responsibility that falls to an Au Pair who is responsible for another person’s healthy development, and has to be prepared for any situation that may come to happen. To take care of a child is an errand that requires dedication and attention.
When I started the Au Pair process I realized that I had to be better prepared, and tried to improve my skills. I took courses baby care, and swimming. I also left my mom’s house to live with my friend’s family in August of 2008. Living with a family that is not my own has been a very enriching experience and made me grow a lot as a person. I learned how to live in a house that is not yours, with people that are not your family, and how to adapt to the norms of the house and respect the space of others.
I have always been a very creative person. I like to draw, paint, decorate, and every type of art. I love to create stories for my niece and tell them to her before she goes to sleep. I have a very outgoing personality and make friends easily. I love to cook; it is one of my favorite hobbies. I like to try out different recipes and learn how to make new dishes. I take swimming classes. I really like to swim or just be in the water. I am a very curious person, and enjoy learning new things. I always research or read about different things because I like to find out how they work. I am very patient and kind, especially with children. I adapt easily, like new changes, and deal well with them. On my free time I like listen to music and ready the bike I enjoy walking, visiting museums and parks, reading, writing, drawing, watching movies and TV shows, and staying at home with friends/family cooking for them.
I chose the Au Pair program because it gives me the opportunity to live daily with an American family, and the chance to be a part of a child’s development, sharing my culture while I learn new things. To live in another country will help me grow and open my mind; I know it will be an enriching experience. I am very excited with this new journey. I am lucky to have the support of family and friends to make this dream come true.
I learned how to drive when I was 22 years old at a driving school, and I love to drive. I know how important it is to drive responsibly and safely, especially while driving children. It requires double the attention when driving with children in the car because they are unpredictable. I try to drive regularly. Ever since starting the Au Pair program I have taken private classes on weekends and driven on several roads and highways. I am a safe driver, calm and attentive.
My niece Mirelly and my nephew Enzo was for sure my biggest experience. When she was born I was 20 and my nephew was born i was 22 years old. I took care of her fulltime during the whole week. It was a lot of responsibility and a great learning experience. I was with her when they said the first words, ate the first meals, took the first steps, and in several other first discoveries. I was completely responsible for her, for feeding her, putting her to sleep, bathing her, teaching her how to brush her teeth, changing dippers and taking care of her schedule. Today we have a very close and lovely relationship. I like to be an example for her, help her with homework, read books, draw, paint, and play together.
My friend was always my neighbor, and I helped her ever since she only child was born. Vitoria . I was seven years old when her was born. Today she is 13 years old. Even when I was young I used to ask to have her sleep at my house so I could take care of her. Today her is a teenager, and we talk about technology, school, and play dolls. We like to play together; her is a calm and very smart girl.Guilherme is my litle friend today he has ten years old. I always help he with making their hair my niece Mirelly and they are always together playing at the backyard with balls, jumping ropes, and with games that I used to play as a child such as hide-and-seek, tag, and others. Sometimes I try to teach them some words in English.Pedro is only two years old. It seems like it was yesterday when he was born! He is very energetic and is always jumping. I have a lot of fun taking care of him. I help him with new words that he learns and teach him how to go alone to the bathroom. I like to create games that stimulate his motor coordination, and it is incredible to see how quickly he learns. I spend a lot of time with him so my aunt can take care of the youngest. Ahtur is the new baby in the family; he is only two months old. Taking care of a first born requires a lot of attention. I help in changing his dippers, giving him a bath, giving him baby bottles, and putting him to sleep.
These are my main experiences, ones that I can use in my application, but I also help neighbors and close friends when they need somebody to babysit. I am very cheerful at family parties, painting faces and coordinating games. I entertain my sister’s friends when they come to our house. I am used to taking care of more than one child between the ages of 0 to 13 years old, and to take care of sick children.
I hope that in my year as an Au Pair I make lifelong friendships and that I learn a lot. I am excited to live in and be a part of this amazing culture.
Now I’m excited waiting for your contact. Certainly we have a lot of good ideas and experiences to share.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thank you!
Best regards,
Mariane.
